The Torres Strait - an idyllic cluster of tropical islands off the northern tip of Queensland, Australia. Sally T was raised in 'The Straits,' born to a Torres Strait Islander father and a Canadian mother, from Victoria BC. It was during these early years, in the sun, sand and salt water, that she started forming her dream of making music. Her grandmother, Ina Mills, sang in a folk-singing trio with her two sisters and, as a little girl, Sally T loved watching the three island ladies capture audiences with their harmonies and infectious smiles.

Sally T left the Torres Strait and Australia altogether to eventually find herself in the birth country of her mother. She continued to sing and write songs, her style ever-changing and evolving with her travels. Having performed in a variety of musical outfits from multi-piece funk acts to rock bands to jazz and folk duos , this singer-songwriter has performed in cities and small towns, from theatres and clubs to street corners across the country.

Sally T's latest solo musical endeavor is driven by the firm belief that, through live music, we can create strong communities and positive social change. Her original songs are a folky fusion of roots & old-timey jazz, well rounded and strongly driven by her warm, bluesy vocals. Sprinkled with improvised jazz scats and beat-boxing, Sally T's disarming performance will naturally pull an audience in to participate. Her lyrics, inspired by natural beauty and the human condition, move between poetically raw and playfully sweet, and are often delivered with a cheeky smile (just like her grandma)!
